Java Backend Developer - SDE - III

Lead Back End Engineer (SDE-III) is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining large-scale, highly distributed, and fault-tolerant systems. Further, will work closely with other senior engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to solve complex technical challenges and shape the technical direction of the subordinate team and the organization. This is a critical role for developing long-term architectural strategies and mentoring junior engineers, while ensuring high-quality, reliable software delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Architectural Leadership:

• Own and drive the design and architecture of highly scalable, reliable, and performant systems.

• Provide technical leadership in the design and review of large-scale systems across multiple teams.

• Lead architecture discussions, drive high-level decision-making, and develop a long-term technical vision for the team's systems.

• Ensure that solutions align with Industry’s best security, scalability, and reliability standards.

1. End-to-End Project Ownership:

• Lead and deliver complex software development projects from concept to production.

• Write high-quality, scalable, and maintainable code that meets both functional and non-functional requirements.

• Own system performance, monitoring, and operational health, and ensure systems meet high reliability and uptime standards.

• Provide Estimates to the Value Delivery team for Enhancements and new customer configuration/customization in a timely manner.

• Respond to Architecture, Infrastructure and Security questionnaires and participate in discussions with potential customers.

1. Technical Mentorship:

• Mentor and guide SDE-I, SDE-II, and other junior developers, helping them grow technically and professionally.

• Conduct code reviews, design reviews, and provide constructive feedback to ensure quality and efficiency.

• Foster a culture of technical excellence, encouraging continuous improvement and learning within the team.

1. Cross-Team Collaboration:

• Work closely with product managers, front end developers, other engineering teams, and stakeholders to ensure alignment on technical solutions and project goals.

• Collaborate with teams across Caliper to drive projects, ensuring seamless integration with other systems and services.

• Engage in deep-dive discussions on technical trade-offs, risks, and how to mitigate them.

1. Operational Excellence:

• Own the operational excellence of your systems, ensuring they meet high standards for performance, reliability, and security.

• Implement best practices for monitoring, alerting, logging, and incident management.

• Lead root cause analysis for complex technical issues and post-mortem discussions to prevent recurrence of production issues.

• Drive continuous improvement in software engineering practices, tools, and processes.

• Keep abreast of industry trends, new technologies, and best practices, bringing innovation into the team and organization.

• Foster a culture of experimentation, creativity, and innovation within the team.

Domain/Technical Understanding/ Additional Skills

1. 7+ years of web development experience.
2. Proficiency in one or more programming languages - Java or Python and a deep understanding of data structures, algorithms, and system design.
3. Proven experience in leading the architecture and design of complex software systems.
4. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to tackle challenging technical problems independently.
5. Strong experience with cloud computing platforms like AWS, Azure and GCP. SQL and NO-SQL databases like Postgres, SQL and MongoDB.
6. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
7. Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams.
